Resources Toolkit

Pre-K Our Way is your way to bring preschool to your children and your community. Where a child lives shouldn’t determine whether or not they have access to high-quality preschool. There’s no argument: high-quality preschool is essential for our children to be prepared for school and ready for success. Our state has one of the best, most successful, high-quality public preschool programs in the country—but fewer than 65 districts have access to it. Expanding New Jersey’s pre-k program has become a bipartisan priority among parents, communities and policymakers. Use Pre-K Our Way’s materials to help educate and motivate others. It’s time to bring pre-k your way!

Expand NJ's Pre-K

Through Pre-K Our Way’s strategic messaging, targeted communication and focused engagement efforts, pre-k expansion has become a statewide priority. Recognized as one of the top legislative priorities in the 2016-2017 legislative sessions, pre-k expansion was part of the 2017 primary and general elections at the local, legislative and gubernatorial levels in debates, candidate platforms and media interviews. Additionally, Pre-K Our Way led the discussion in late 2016 and throughout 2017 for pre-k expansion as an integral part of New Jersey’s school funding formula. Full funding of the school formula – and pre-k expansion – are stated top priorities for Governor Murphy and the new administration.

Pre-K Expansion 2017-2018

For the first time in nearly a decade, there are a few thousand more 3- and 4-year-olds with access to NJ’s high-quality, state-funded, full-day pre-k. October 2 was the first day of school for some, and others started later that month or in early November. Read links to some of the news stories from individual pre-k expansion communities!

April 9, 2017: Former Governors Tom Kean and Jim Florio Op-Ed on the Importance of Pre-K Expansion

"In 2008, the Legislature and governor included a provision in the state school aid formula law to expand New Jersey’s state-funded, high-quality pre-K to nearly every community in the state. It was never funded. If funded, 50,000 additional three-and four-year-old children, each year, would be attending the pre-K programs. It is past time to begin state funding for this critical educational investment. Our youngest citizens are our state’s future. No matter where they live or what district they reside, our kids’ educational achievement should rise above politics."
