What Pre-K Means to Kids

What do kids remember about pre-k? What was special to them? What activities were important?

Pre-K Our Way thought it would be interesting to go to the source!  We asked third-graders to weigh in on their ideas about pre-k, what they remembered, and how it made a difference in their lives. Our sample isn’t scientific, but it is enlightening!

Parents, educators, elected officials, advocates and organizations discuss research, reports and anecdotes about why pre-k is important – and how high-quality early education impacts a young child. In connection with the 2017 Week of the Young Child, Pre-K Our Way went directly to kids, and is pleased to share some impressions and memories of pre-k from third-graders.

If you’re inspired by their words or drawings below, share your ideas about what high-quality pre-k means to you – or for your child or community. Show support for expanding NJ’s existing high-quality pre-k to the 50,000 3- and 4-year-olds across hundreds of communities. Enjoy these impressions from nearly two dozen third-graders, then let your legislators know that you want pre-k!
